PAN DE VIDA at Misión Peniel
Kitchen Program Pan de Vida was born from seeing the need that exists in Immokalee, Florida, where no organization gives attention to homebound elderly or disabled farmworkers.
Pan de Vida started in November 2019 as the first service of its kind in the community. We are a program that cooks and delivers three healthy meals every week to any farmworker in our area who is a senior or who is homebound as the result of age, disability, or illness. The service is primarily for farmworkers, but we consider all applications and no homebound individual is ever denied service.
Pan de Vida provides many “extra” items to our recipients such as special meals during the holidays, Christmas gifts, birthday bag filled with items in recognition of their special day, birthday cakes, birthday fruit baskets for diabetics, fresh vegetables from Misión Peniel’s garden, and bags with personal hygiene items, just to name a few. We do this because we understand that our volunteers are often the only human interaction our client may have during their homebound time, and the extra items we send help make their lives easier and their lonely days brighter. For most of our recipients, these are the only gifts they will receive during the holidays or birthdays making them more special.
Every week we receive many thanks from our recipients so excited about the food, the fresh vegetables, and the extra items. Our clients enjoyed them all!
